About Us
The Houston Community ToolBank is a nonprofit tool lending program that provides fellow not-for-profit organizations (and disaster volunteers) with year-round access to an inventory of tools for use in volunteer projects and facility and environmental maintenance. We provide tools to enhance the charitable sector’s capacity to serve, scale, and facilitate hands-on volunteerism in the greater Houston area. Access to ToolBank tools eliminates the need for agencies to incur the expense of purchasing, insuring, repairing, and storing tools, reducing the costs associated with service projects and allowing these agencies to focus more of their resources on their mission.
History
The Houston Community ToolBank opened its doors in late 2014. The Houston ToolBank is an affiliate of ToolBank USA, the Atlanta-based parent organization of the new national network of ToolBanks. The Houston ToolBank is modeled after the highly successful Atlanta Community ToolBank, which has served greater Atlanta’s not-for-profit sector for more than 25 years. Over the past seven years, the ToolBank has equipped more than 240,000 volunteers with tools to complete over 24,000 projects, and given a returned value of more than $24 million back into the community. We have supported disaster response efforts throughout Texas and Louisiana. We now offer remote pick up and delivery services in Montgomery, Fort Bend, Galveston and western Harris counties.
